Stop The Bleed is a national campaign that aims to make bleeding control training as commonplace as CPR training. Since a person can bleed out and die in as little as three minutes it is literally a matter of life or death that someone take action immediately, someone who is already there. The Stop The Bleed program grew out of the Hartford Consensus<\/a>, a committee convened by the American College of Surgeons a few months after the tragic active shooter incident at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.<\/p>\n

The committee was comprised of representatives from the medical community, the federal government, the National Security Council, the U.S. military, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and emergency medical response organizations. The goal was to create a national policy to enhance survivability from active shooter and intentional mass casualty events.<\/p>\n

The Hartford Consensus recommended turning bystanders into immediate responders at the scene of wounding before first responders arrive, by teaching them how to control bleeding by packing wounds, applying pressure, and using modern Combat Applications Tourniquets.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
